Grand Opening  E-mail
Written by Ken Van Horn

GEOA.org is now officially open!

We did it! It is up and running and our first newsletter brought 642 visits in two days from election officials in cities and counties throughout Georgia. New Features include:

  • New Server
  • Entirely upgraded backend
  • New e-mail management system
  • A Webstore is installed…we don’t have products to sell yet so it is not active but you can look at it and play with it.
  • A new user management system that includes the ability to log in by screen name or by e-mail address
  • User friendly page names
  • Enhanced Security
    • The first thing you will notice is the CAPTCHA when you create your account
    • The entire site is much more secure…nothing is perfect but it should be much more difficult to hack
    • We added a complete backup system for the site
  • New Document Management System
    • This document management system when finished has the ability to upload all of our conference files to a single folder on the server and automatically adds them. Sweet!
  • New Menu System
    • One of the biggest complaints was how complicated the old website was. We have spent a lot of time simplifying things. We will need some feedback on how we did and how we can further improve.

  • Commenting System
    • We added a commenting system for all of our articles. This gives you the ability to provide immediate feedback.
    • We can post documents from the State Election Board and from the SOS office here and let you comment on them.
  • Milestones
    • We added a place to post births, deaths, retirements and promotions or any milestone in the life of our membership. This was a special request.
  • Job Openings
    • We added a place to advertise Job Openings to our membership. Our vendors and member cities and counties may use this service free of charge.
  • Newsletter System
    • Keeping our members informed about what is going on outside of their counties in the world of elections is part of our purpose. Our newsletter system will enable us to do that quickly, simply and efficiently.
    • We currently have three newsletters:
      • Our general bi-weekly newsletter with news and updates about elections, conference details, and articles about election administration.
      • A legislative update newsletter for those interested in tracking the legislation going through the General Assembly as well as court decisions affecting elections.
      • A vendors newsletter to keep businesses who want to be kept up to date with conference information, exhibitor and vendor services at the conference, and opportunities to market their products to our membership throughout the year.

The following features are planned for next year:

  • Business Directory for our conference exhibitors, sponsors and other vendors
  • Registration System for conference registration
  • And whatever else you can suggest that we can accomodate
